About
Welcome to The Sewer - Sans Souci Cocktail Lounge, a beloved dive bar located in the heart of downtown Ventura, California. Nestled at 21 S Chestnut St, this cozy establishment has become a cherished spot for locals and visitors alike, fostering a sense of community while delivering an unforgettable experience.
One of the standout features of The Sewer is its vibrant atmosphere. Geddy Hewitt aptly describes it as a dive bar, reminding patrons not to expect high-class decor. Yet, it’s precisely this unpretentious vibe that enchants visitors. The weekends come alive with live music performances or the energetic spin of a DJ, allowing guests to unwind and enjoy the rhythm of the night.
Food lovers will appreciate the unique collaboration with Jimmy Slice, which allows patrons to indulge in delicious pizza while sipping on their favorite cocktails. As Cherie Weller notes, if you're in the mood for a slice, simply place an order, and it will be sent right to your table, blending the best of both worlds: great drinks and satisfying bites.
The bar's location is another highlight. Situated across from the Majestic Ventura Theater and surrounded by an eclectic array of shops and restaurants, it’s perfect for those looking to enjoy a night out in a lively setting. The inviting patio is a splendid spot to bask in the fresh ocean air while soaking up the vibrant energy of the city.
The owners, Sande and Jim, contribute to the warm, welcoming atmosphere with their genuine kindness. As Tony Flores puts it, "great live music" and a friendly environment make The Sewer a must-visit. While the space may be small, it is large in character and camaraderie, with patrons consistently leaving with smiles and plans to return.
In summary, The Sewer - Sans Souci Cocktail Lounge is more than just a bar; it’s a spirited gathering place that captures the heart of Ventura. With live music, delicious food options, and a friendly community vibe, this is the perfect destination for those seeking an enjoyable and memorable night out. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this dive bar promises great times and, undoubtedly, the charm of Ventura's nightlife.
“ This place has been around since I was a kid. It's Def a dive bar so don't expect high class. However most weekends have live music or a DJ and the bar tenders are good. If you looking for a less than classy night out this is the best spot in Downtown. ”
“ This is an awesome watering hole in the heart of Ventura. A fun perk is if you have a craving for pizza while tossing back drinks and socializing with friends, Jimmy slice will heat up a pie and send it on over. San Souci is located towards the West end of the downtown area surrounded by awesome shops and restaurants, and sits directly across from The Majestic Ventura Theater. Your ears will get a treat with live music performance every night, but the place can get crowded, so be sure to arrive a little early if you want to find a seat. There's a patio to enjoy some fresh air, and it's the perfect environment to sit back, relax, and enjoy the fresh ocean air. Be sure to say hi to the owners, Sande and Jim, as they're lovely people with huge hearts. ”
“ Dive Bar with Live Music. Cheaper than the Majestic across the street so... You know... To each their own. ”
“ The live music was great. Place is small but they have beer and good music so would definitely be going back. ”
“ Top notch ventura dive bar! Great times spent here. ”
“ Still my favorite dive bar after 20 years of going out to drink. And I feel like it one of the very few places Downtown Ventura that still have live music regularly. ”
“ I love going to this place. I was new to the area and I felt right at home. They have live bands some days and DJ’s the other ones. The staff members are great. The bouncers keep an eye to make sure it’s not too rowdy or any escalations of fights. ”
“ The best place to get the absolute last call in the whole city of Ventura CA. Dude I've been going to the Sewer since my 21st birthday. R. I. P. Jim W has bought me over ten birthday drinks and even smoked a few cigars way back in the day when the sewer sold stogies and cigs. A special thanks to the associates who are friends for decades Mike and Cashes who tha Bomb at the bartender bis and business is awesome. Thanks again Sewer Jessie Castillo III ”
